Patti Smith and Her Band
After eight long years since last visiting Australia, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Patti Smith returns, ready to play her last ever concert down under in West Melbourne this April. Patti will be joined by her band as well as special guest Courtney Barnett in playing a repertoire of originals and selected covers from across 11 studio albums and her over four-decade career.
Before the final concert, Patti and her band will first be rocking houses down in Sydney and Melbourne and will also be gracing this year's Byron Bay Bluesfest.
Patti's debut album Horses, released in 1975, has come to be regarded as an influential and landmark recording, that continues to have resonance and relevance for succeeding generations of musicians and artists. Ten more studio albums followed, as well as two highly acclaimed, bestselling books Smith describes as “roadmaps to my life”.
Not only an artist, musician and author, Patti Smith is also a human rights activist. She also holds the honour of “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” from the French Ministry of Culture.
“Watching Patti Smith perform live – for the first, second or fifth time – feels like a life-changing experience.” - The Independent, Field Day
“Smith remains a vital and provocative artist with a radical message for the 21st century” - The Nation
“This is protest music. But it is protest with a fierce edge that seamlessly weaves a new politics into a rich legacy of rock-and-roll rebellion: She is celebrating a connection between music and movements that is swaggering and confident and more than ready to declare—as Smith does—that “we’re gonna change the fucking world!” - The Nation
