The Australian Haydn Ensemble opens its 2022 season with a program of Haydn, Boccherini and Mozart.
In 1782, at age 25, Mozart decided it was time for his star to shine. Shrugging off his stultifying patron and the boring city of his father, he had set himself up in the music capital of the world, won “Viennese Idol” as keyboard virtuoso, fallen in love, written a risqué smash hit opera, and was filling his set-lists with brand new piano concerti to play to adoring fans. Somehow, he found time to lend his viola talents to a string quartet with a certain Joseph Haydn. This concert gives audiences the chance to eavesdrop on that stellar string quartet of 1782 featuring a young Mozart and Haydn himself as the music they sightread is created anew.
