Be transported to the theatrical Tenebrae mass of the Paris convent of Longchamp, and delight in François Couperin’s enthralling and mysterious Leçons de ténèbres (Lessons of Darkness), a surprisingly sensual piece, written for Holy Week in 1714. These alluring works are considered among the most beautiful vocal works of the Baroque period.
